The current Yamaha 200 project *Update 1-08-06*

Hi everyone! I figure it is about time that I fill you in on my current project. Last winter my brother (aka TheOlderFox) picked up 2 trikes, his 225dx project and my 200 project. He is doing some finishing touches on the 225 still but that is just about done too. Anyways, he picked up this trike (which I soon clamed to be my project ) when I was away at college so it sat in his basement for most of the winter till he tore it down and painted the frame. I wasn't able to pick up the trike, well boxes of parts really, until the middle of the summer but working on it seemed to go fast. I have been back at school for the last month so work has stopped yet again on it but hopefully I can finish it up over fall break. Here are some pics. from various stages.

Here is what it looked like when we got it, and the tank is not as nice as the pic makes it seem, it was spraypainted along with the rest of the fenders .

Gettting the parts ready to put it back together....

Well I bought the trike for 80. We propably have 200-300 in it. So not too bad. Time has just been an issue so it has been slow going. I haven't started the YT125 that I bought in April yet... Well My bro and I will try to finish it up in a couple of weeks when we will be at my parents (where the trike is) together.
Anyone know of a new project machine for me around Wisconsin?

LOL, you can kind of see it behind the Yamaha in the last pic., I really haven't done anything with it yet. It is an '84 Kawasaki 110 which needs an engine, I just won a mojave 110 engine on ebay today so hopefully that will go in it. Then I will have an electric start Kawi 110 .

Actually so far I have about $400 or so into it. I still need some little things which should put it up to about $500. The goal for this trike was to go through it and put a lot of time into, not money it to make it look and run great. I got it mostly complete (for $80! ) so most of the parts it needed were things that I could get used. Wearable things such as the bearings, piston rings (and maybe a piston now ), some cables, gaskets, and seals I of course bought new. The worst part about this trike was the engine, I have never seen one is such bad shape. We ended up getting a used top end because the cam was worn and had chunks missing (the valves were ajdusted all the was and were still loose). The cylinder was ugly with a piston just as bad. The crank breaing were even bad, and this is a 4 stroke! The trans. gears and forks looked good and the clutch is from a parts engine that I have so it now looks good.

Well the Tri Moto project is just about done, it only took 2 years . For the last year I have been chasing around a ticking which has finally been solved it only took replacing the head, piston, cylinder, crank, and just about every other part in the engine. The only parts that were from the original engine are the stator cover and pull start. It turns out the knoise was worn out rocker arms that I though had been inspected when I got a good head from my brother.
Anyways it is just about done, I still need to adjust the carb. and the chain and sprockets along with the pull start pully should be replaced.

Yeah after I cleaned it up I found that it was worn a little too but only a very little so I am happy with it. For some reason the intake (or was it the exhaust) rocker seems to wear faster then the other or atleast on the few heads that I took apart it was like that.
As for the ERN I was thinking of doing a YTM summer swap, I leave mine at your place and bring your's back, I am not planning on getting my own project this summer so I will need something to work on.

    Wow mate,congrats on the bike....
I am looking purchasing a trike similar to this(YTM200es..).

    I have some questions:
Are the wheels galvanised or painted??If galvinised, how much $ was this to get done...

    Also,was the frame sandblasted?

    Cheers mate.

Hey Andrew, watch out when you fill it up, dont get gas on those decals...they just smear if you wipe it. If you do spill gas on them, dont wipe it off, just let it dry and you should be find. They're not the best quality decals, I dont know why they couldnt laminate them for me.
Well, hope they work out for you.

Thats sweet, really love those old Yamahas. Tried to convince the old man to let me fix up ours into a solid runner before we ended up selling it. All it needed was a headpipe and a little TLC.
