Installing Cobra Utility Exhaust on 250es tomorrow...any suggestions??

I ordered a used Cobra utility pipe off ebay for my '87 Big Red and I heard that I might have to change the jets on my carb. If so, what # jetting should I use and is there anything else I need to do??

ClayW: I think I talked to you about the Cobra pipe on a Big Red before. Did you have to do any major changes to your 250es?

I would imagine that the jet size would have to be upped some for the exhuast,do you have the stock jets in your carb?

Yes, I have the stock jets in my carb. The stock exhaust has always been on there as far as I know.

Just put it on and frequently check your spark plug for a while. It might need rejetting, but it would be a mistake to assume it will be required.

You may want to buy a new exhaust gasket.

    Hey Pat,

I put the Cobra Utility pipe kit on my bike and didnt have to do anything. She ran fine and still runs fine. (4 months later) Plug hasnt caused a problem at all nor the carb. The only tip I can give you is to soak the studs on the head with penetrating oil this evening a couple of times and tommorow be fore you pull it. They tend to break easily on some bikes. One of the nuts on mine came off with no problem, and on the other one, the stud and nut came out. Just be sure no to cross thread it when you go back in with it. Other than that its pretty easy.

    Hey,

Dont throw away your heat shield either. You will wish you had it. The cobra pipe doesnt have the bolt holes for it to bolt it down, but it can be mounted. If you would like a pic of mine let me know. I used some clamps my buddy got from work that were for used high temperature jet engine applications. They worked great. I had to bend the shield a little, but not to bad. Looks stock and keeps the hair from burning on your legs. LOL

Hey thanks a lot for the advice Clay. You're talking about the 2 bolts that hold the header on to the engine right? I don't have any penetrating oil, I guess WD40 would work....thanks again man.

Heres some pics. The 3rd pic is the type clamp I used. I had to drill a hole in the side of it centered. You can see what I mean in the pic
