85 Tecate Project
Started work on my 85 a long time ago, buying parts and making preparations for a quick rebuild when the time came.
Got all my parts now except for rear brakes becuz of an mistake of ordering on my part.
Few days ago I began building. Thus far I have the brakes, tank, forks/tripples, progresive springs, bars, handguards, raptor shock, airbox, swingarm, axle, hubs, wheels, tires, number plate, pegs, plastics...everything thats needed to make it a roller is on.
I'm very impressed with the bike, looks stellar. The raptor shock bolted in with the addition of a bigger top bolt and lower spacers, had to cut a small 2 inch section out of the airbox to make the res fit. The shock is super cush then goes real stiff as it gets compressed, great shock for jumps.
The Progressive springs were the hardest things to go in but they are totally worth it. I'm 120 pounds and can;t compress the forks more than 2 inches so they will be awsome for some big air.
The front fender is on and looks great, gotta race cut it soon though. The 86 rears that I used are on with some minor trimming around the tank to mount into the stock holes, looks awsome as well so they are no longer up for trade.
Put the tank and with the spacers I made to move it back and cut steering stops I can cross up the front real well. Gonna need to buy a CEET tank cover at some point to hide the faded tank but it looks alright.
Put the JWR number plate on and used some "plastic canvas" (sewing stuff thats like mesh) in it. Cut 6 inch numbers ("250") from an aluminum road sign, polished them up and riveted them on. Looks great.
As well I ditched the blue fork boots for my fork wippers and added the white Maier disc guards while I was at it.
The rear PRM grab bar is on, wheel spacers are on. Funny cause i went out in the shed and noticed I had one wheel turned inside out so it wasnt at its widest, fixxed it and now you can really see how wide this is gonna sit.
The front AT489 is light and looks knarly to say the least. The rear Trail Pros that everyone condems when they see look small to me, they are 22's and the 86 fenders make them look small. May go with some 20 inch tires instead of 18's for the rears now. (Turf tamers, Klaws, or Holeshot HD's?)
The stock handlebars are painted and on with the twist throttle and some Moose handguards.
This bike has come a long way to get to this point, wish I had some pics to show but no digicam at the moment. Get ya some pics soon people. Thanks for the view, felt like I had to brag to some1, later.
To those of you who are buying parts make sure you get your years correct. I bought braking brake pads for an 86 Tecate and also a K&N filter and two Outerwears waterproof covers for it that are useless to me now.
