rm didn't make a 500 engine,so that leaves the cr or kx.I have heard good things about both.if i had a honda I would go with a cr and if I had a kawi I would go with a kx and since you have a yamaha then I guess you could go with what you want.I heard that the kx puts out more power but thats just what I heard.does anyone know what those engines put out?I heard 60 hp stock??

put a newer KX500 motor in it, you'll be leavin those 500R (cr500 motor in R frame) in the dust.

i know for a fact the 99 kx500 motors put out about 65 HP stock, and from what i've read, it doesnt take much at all to raise that number drastically

Hey I have a fully tricked out Husky 485cc engine that is rock fast that you could mod to fit. It has the left side kicker too hehehe.

Brian, do the Husky swap, thats something that would open a few eyes when they ask whats in your bike. No doubt the Husky makes just as much Hp and it would be totally awsome to have the Husky powered Tri-Z.

I've heard they are strong motors, havent heard about the blowing up part. Any highly modded engine can be unreliable, its just a matter of how you take care of it.

the only thing that would keep me from getting something is .....parts availability for them.... if i go with a cr or a kx 500 there are all kinds of engine/performance parts for them...

I think RM did make a 500, but it was nack around 82. Yamaha made a 490, which is what I was thinking about putting in my tri-z, but they are air cooled, dont know about reliability, and about parts availability.
