    Anyone ever chromed a frame?

Just curious. I don't think I've ever seen a trike with a chrome frame before. I saw a pic of a Tri-Z the other day that was purple and black but with a white frame and I couldn't help think how completely badass that thing would look with all the white parts done in chrome.

Any idea how much? I wouldn't think it would be over $500 but it's not something I've ever looked into.

Here's that Tri-Z. Does it belong to any of you? Nice bike.

Powder coating a frame is about $250 from what I've seen.

That's looking nice. Post more pics as it gets more complete.

Ive seen a few frames done up, but heard a lot of negative stuff about doing it. Something about the process it takes to chrome it, weakens it, and its prone to cracking and/or breaking.

I don't see how it could actually weaken the frame. I know they have to dip it in some kind of acid but that should only effect the surface. Sucks if that's true. I could see it looking sweet on a Tri-Z. Not so sure about an R though.

Not that I can afford to do it anyway.

You realize you have to post pics of the finished trike now, right?

If you go the chrome route, you'll have to mask off the bolt threads, or spend a lot of time and frustration cleaning up the threads!! Not a fun job.

Ebay just had an auction on a newly chromed 85/86 250R frame it was at $445.00 and reserve was not met. Chrome should not weeken metal at all, I've been selling chrome wheels for over 15yrs (chromed steel & chromed alm.) and the only problem I see with chromed steel is that it will rust much faster than chromed alm because the steel sweats ( when temp. changes from hot to cold or cold to hot) underneath the chrome were as the alm. dosent sweat at all.
