Honda 200M spark problem
I have a honda 200M,the problem I'm having is when I touch the spark plug to a piece of metal to do a spark test,it will not spark.when I pull it about a 1/4 of an inch away I get spark. It ran fine 2 weeks ago,I took it down and had new rings put in it.I put it back together and this happens.anyone have this problem before? what was it? any help would be greatly appreciated!
P.S. I have tried 4 to 5 new plugs, made sure the timing was correct, and bought a new spark plug cap.none of these helped.
any other suggestions? Thanks!

hey thanks for the post. I took the motor back out, took a dremel tool with a sanding disc and cleaned up all the motor mounting surfaces, wire ends, coil mounting surfaces, battery ground cable end surface, pretty much everything that bolts the motor to the frame,or any wires that connect.I put the motor back in and tried it,so far it hasn't helped, still does the same thing.I have another coil and coil wire on the way,I'll try that I guess, then the spark advancer, then the stator, then this, then that, hehehe.looks like process of elimination time. thanks again!

you need a multimeter. RAdio Shack 20 $ for a digital one.
simply test all these parts instead of playing chase and replace.

well,I got me a multimeter, checked everything.the stator shows 202 on the meter so it is about in the middle, recommended ohms say 100-400 ohms. coil is good,it shows 0.2 ohms.cdi box is good, ignition shows good but is a bit sloppy.when it ran before, the ignition was tight, now it don't run and it's sloppy, maybe it's not making contact inside somewhere,I don't know.
I checked the pulse generator,it's good.it shows 30 ohms.put a different starter on it,it's good.the starter selenoid is good.I checked every wire on the harness,no bare wires, and nothing grounding out.and all connections are good and tight.new spark plug installed (this is the 5th plug I put in now) the timing is correct, the pulse generator gap is correct.it does need a new battery, but I have it on charge right now,it still turns over fine.the ONLY thing I haven't checked is the rectifier.is there a test I can do on it? can anyone think of anything else I can check? I touch the spark plug to bare metal it still has no spark, move it away a 1/4 of an inch and it sparks bright blue.thanks in advance for your help!
