Honda certainly sold more trikes than Yamaha, who in turn sold more than Kawasaki. Tri-Zs were sold for two model years, 1985 and 1986. I think the 85 models came out during July of 84.

As for popularity in any location, I think it had to do with the local dealer channel. Where I am (near Oshkosh, WI) we had a big Yamaha dealer and only a small Honda dealer who went belly-up in 83 or 84. As a result you see Tri-Motos all over the place. There was also a good Kawasaki dealer so there are quite a few Tecates floating around.
    CURRENT RIDES:
    1988 Tri-Z 350 Twin
    1985 1/2 Tri-Z
    1984 IT490

I was the same way with Tecates - in nearly 20 years of riding all sorts of ATV's - I never recalled seing one in person until just very recently, and that was a T-4 - I still to this day have never seen a T-3 live in the flesh. I'm guessing that they just were never very popular here in Eastern Pa. The only Kawasaki I have ever owned actually is my '89 KDX200.

    This thread makes me sad.

They were everywhere in the place that I grew up. Especially the sportier models. I've ridden every sport trike made by the big three (although the tecate was only once and I've only seen one 1986/87 tecate ever).

If I would have known what the future held back then, I would have taken a lot more pictures. Probably would have had at least a couple more trikes away in storage too.
