Has anyone ever done this swap? how hard do you think it would be?

Very Hard. Every Mount would need to be taken off, switched, welded etc.
Hard work.........something Ive got plans to do within a couple years ( a 250X w/ 300 top end powered 85 200X with 86 350X suspension).

i was going to do that swap. the 250x motor is too big to fit in the frame of a 85 200x. yeah it can be done with major frame mods, but not worth it to me. My friend had the 250x motor so i could have got it for almost nothing. so i just built the 200x motor up. i think that a 300ex and 250x motor would bolt into the 350x, or only minor modifications.
hey, just my thing. why bother with a 250? 4cylinders are more fun.check out, monster needs a new home. the monster was once a 200x. too bad you don't live closer, one ride, the big rush, it's a blast!! 8)

not quite what I had in mind for a trail bike, LOL
I have also been tossing the idea around but have not chased that much. Rather then the 85 frame, Iwanted to go with the larger frame of 86-87 200x. I didnt want it in a 350x cause frankly the beasty's are too heavy..and it isnt worth it. At least I didnt think it was. Some of the issuesOriginally Posted by Da_Catt
I had questions about....Will the chain line up correctly around the frame. Exactly what size is the 250x engine and then there are of course others...Anyway thats where I was at. Jen
allrighty.......here the plan so far. I think Ill be keeping the 87 200X frame for a transplant later down the road....most likely of this nature.
if you put a 200x motor and 250x motor side by side the 200x looks small. I think the 250x and 350x motors are close to the same size. the thing to look at is tha carb. the 200x carb is at a angle, kinda beside the shock. the 250x carb comes straight back. if you look at the bikes you will see what i am talking about. I think the shock on the 200x would be in the way for the carb.
I agree. The 200X engine is quite a bit smaller in all aspects than a 250X and 350X engine. The 250X and 350X engines are very much alike. If you were going to swap a larger engine in, I would suggest doing to 350X engine. It would be a lot of work, but for the time and effort involved, you might as well put a 350X engine in and have the extra 100ccs and torque.
Either way, it would require about the same amount of work to cram either engine into the 200X frame, which is a lot of welding and fabricating new mounts. And also, if you do it for one of the engines, the other will not be a direct bolt in mod. A 250 and 350 are not directly interchangeable, but close.

Which 200x are you folks chattin about the 83-85 or 86-87?Thx Jen
I am talking about the 83-85 200x.
Ok now that we established that you are correct the earlier 200x will not work they are too small (frame wise) That is why I said consider the newer 200x(86-87)..Did you know they are larger(frame wise and engine wise) in size...
Yes I knew that the 86-87 200x's were larger. and if I did the swap thats what I would go with... though I am currently building an 85
