I saw a 2005 DS650 Baja at the Honda dealer 2 weeks ago and it looked totally sweet with all black plastic, even has a tach.

wel i don;t like 4 stokes but have ridden most of them. also before i sayu anything lemme say i'm a big yamaha fan. and i ahve to say that the raptor is way way over rated and also it's for the most part junk. yamaha threw that thing together. if your gona by a yamaha and it;s goota be a 4stroke get a YFZ you'll be much happier even though there is no reverse. hell if you like just trails you mioght even lookinto a wolverine they are a 350cc 4 stroke plus they are a 4x4 sprot quad i thik maybe the only one on the market. they aren;t very quick though being that they have waht appers to be a warrior engine well something close. personally i;d say (and this is outta my brand loyalty) get a ltz/KFX/DRX400 they are all teh same quad. personally i think the white LTZ looks the best. they are pretty decent quads that is if you want rev. and elec.start if reverse isn;t that big of a deal i;d get the YFZ hands down. hell a YFZ almost hangs with a banshee in teh wide open stuff. oh and for teh record if you want the best quads you gotta look at 2 strokes but they have none of your options that you want

Yeah if I want to get out of a spot that I can't go in reverse then I would get off and push it back.

I myself would go with the 400EX, or Z400/KXF400. If you wanted something in the open class with E-start and Reverse.....you may check into a Polaris Predator. I know, I know....Pooh-laris... They are NOT that bad....unlike the Big 3, Polaris actually implements design improvements from year to year. The newest Troy Lee Predator is a really sweet machine. It may seem a bit big, but it really isn't. The dimensions are VERY close to a Raptor. It is 1/2 shorter, same seat height, and is about 4" wider. It is a bit HEAVY @ 415# (Raptor is right at 400#) In short drag races, the Predator will beat a Raptor, but loses out on top end. If you want a trail machine, and you plan on riding it plenty......I would stay away from a Raptor. (My brother just bought a 2004 and has had no trouble with it so far, but there are not that many hours on it.) They STILL have some problems. Tranny is better, but NOT 100%, Starter bearings WILL bo bad, shifter linkage WILL get loose and sloppy(in about 8 hrs or so) requiring you to purchase a new aftermarket one piece unit.($60-$100 depending on how much $$$$ ya got to spend) Axle bearings wear out fast too. Get a Honda, you will be a bit slower, but YOU CAN RIDE it forever (as Kasey said...Bulletproof!) The Z400/KFX400 has lots of aftermarket goodies like the EX and is darn near as reliable. If price is the biggest concern....one of those 400s will be the ticket.

Whichever one ya decide on.....ride a couple before making up your mind and buying....it sucks to pay alot for a machine that you will not be happy with....and when buying used.....make sure NOT to get a whipped machine.........Lots of sport quads are HAMMERED and NOT well maintained.....not good. Spend a bit more for a low hour machine and save yourself some headaches.... Later, good luck.

I'd get the Z400/KFX400 over a 400ex. My old bike was a '02 416ex and i sold it and got a 03' KFX and I love it. My main reason was was for the reverse but it is nice having liquid cooled. The stock suspension on the Z is much nicer as well, much softer ride for trails.

I haven't done too many mods to the KFX but my body put a complete exhaust system on his pulled the airbox lid and jetted and it really made a HUGE difference in power. I think im going to leave this one stock for now. My EX was EX-tremely loud and had a cam and was ported and all that but I live in the city and like to go for the occasional zip down the street, but im sure my neigbors didn't care for the noise the EX made.

i have been thinking things over again and decided that i dont realy need electric start or reverse and that those would just be a + i was looking into a raptor but ive heard numeruos times that there junk and not reliable and i want something dependable reliable and long lasting i dont want to have to take to the shop every other week and keep wasting money on it and it also does not have to be a four stroke i have actualy started looking into banshee's and yfz's but am not sure if im going to be able to find a yfz for under $5000? i was also wondering if all model and year banshee's were just as fast and dependable?

Yeah, you probably won't find a good YFZ for under $5000. Tha Raptors ARE reliable just as long as you don't get a first year model. Also if your gonna be trail riding the Banshee really isn't the best. Why make one work when there are better out there to start with. Sounds like any of the 400's would be good for you.

the new TRX400ex is better but not the best, i say Z for price and how they react to mods, a Ds650 HAHAHAHAHAH those trannys are junk, they wont let u get into a higher or lower gear sometimes (ATV RIDER), raptors their alright, but make sure u ride it like a threewheeler cause trailprotrailpro going to be doing some body english, they are up int he air. i say z400 nice price tag used like 4K or less, when the Lt450 comes out they prices ont he 400 are going to drop drastically
