Thumbs up Now I know why 250R's are so popular....

I took my recently-acquired '86 250R for my first ride today at St. Joe Park.

    Simply amazing.
After all the hype about them being high-strung "race" trikes, I had my doubts.

I'm here to tell you the 250R is fantastic.
They're LIGHT, have TONS of easily-controlled power, amazingly nimble on the trails and just plain fast-as-stink!

    I love it.

No offense to all the 350X folks out there but....
I still love my 350X but it pales in comparison to the R.

I've cut my teeth on the 350X and the move to an R was a natural progression.

Now I know why 250R's are so popular.
    I'm a believer.

You know everyonce in a while I see one of those stickers or shirts that say "Real engines have valves" and I think to myself "Yeah, Real engines have REED valves"

The 250R's are very nice. Definetly one of the best.

Yep, they're a lot of fun for sure. I sold my first one about 3 years ago. It was kinda rough, I picked up a really nice one, too bad it's blown up at the moment. lol. What kind of pipe do you have on it? Mine had a DG full system on it when I got it. I replaced the pipe with a chrome ESR, that pipe is AWESOME! Looks tons better than black too. I found a killer deal on a power valve motor and it looks like that is going in my bike. Should be interesting. I'll have to do a little sand dragging down at St. Joe with it. Do they ever race for money out there?

    Thumbs up Racing my R.....

My R has the stock pipe but an FMF silencer, K&N filter and the air box is still installed. That is it!

Right before we left St. Joe, we set up a wall of bikes (450R's, Raptors, Z400's, Tecate, 350X's, etc.) and made a few good races.
First race: everyone got a major jump on me.
Second race: the only bike near me at the end of the pass was some bad *** black quad (450R, I thought).
My R pulled like a freight train!
    And I'm a NEWBIE!
Once I nail the launch and shift points, I have no doubts it'll be a force to be reckoned with.
Third race: Trike Dude pointed at my front tire....FLAT!! DANG IT! And just when I felt confident I could whoop up on that 450R.
    Thus ending my day.

As the Terminator says, "I'LL BE BACK!".

    Talking And did I mention....

That it started on the third kick on Sunday morning at St. Joe?
Low-mid 40 degree range, cold and damp, too!
So much for the "2 strokes are cold-natured" rumor.

    Sorry, had to add that.

Sweet, I love to see trikes beating quads. Most of the quad guys I ride with have no idea how fast an ATC250R is. My buddy even though he was gonna beat mine with his 400EX. If you have the extra cash I'd reccomend that ESR pipe. You should be able to get it for around $200, list is $240 though. If not I may let my old DG go, it's decent shape. I wanted to hang onto it incase I buy another one with a stock pipe. You can take a look at it if you make it out this way. Hell, just swap it on real quick and see what you think. I'm not really impressed with it but it may add some power over stock, not sure.

Yeah Mo350X isn't it funny how your bike started right up and how the Tecate started up and idled for 20 minutes but we had to work on the 350X for 30 mins to get it started.

I knew you would fall in love w/ that R!

    Let's ride soon

If the 250R with only those mods is beating a (modded?) 450R, the dude driving the 450r cant drive worth a crap.
Give me no lip and I tell you no lie.
