    ATC 70/125m Motor Swap

I am pretty sure that I saw this here before but I want to make sure before I get ahead of myself.

The atc 125M motor will bolt directley up to the atc 70 frame, correct?

And if so is it any year 70 frame or just certain ones.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks

Here's a 125m into a 70 swap I did. It fits but doesn't "bolt right up". There is welding that needs to be done for the front and rear motor mounts. The base of the intake manifold needs to be cut, reclocked and welded for the carb and tank to fit. I used an XR50 exhaust from www.minigunz.com. A battery needs to be added if you want the electric start to work (on '84,'85 motors, no electric start on '83's)

The 125M swap can be done to any year 70 from '78-'85.
I'm begining another 125 swap. Billy will be posting step by step of the conversion in the "projects page"

Hey how did your sprockets/chain work out man? The 125 had a bigger sprocket so does it slip on the chain or did you manage to make one work or what? Im getting one of those Lifan engines with the sprockets already set up to fit the 70, they are cool and have elec. start. Only thing is they dont have reverse, but you can get tehm with manual clutch!!!

I used the 125 front sprocket, 125 chain, and 70 rear sprocket. No problems.
I was able to get the XR50 exhaust raw and welded the tab to the canister sharing the rear grab bar bolt.
The footpegs took about three hours to do. I disected both the 70 and 125 footpegs swapped them around and welded then chromed. The 125 footpegs are too big, ugly and take away from the whole "70" thing.

What welding has to be done? I drilled out the top mounting bolt hole to 10mm and folded out the bottom frame tabs back about 1'' (or just cut them off) and drilled the bottom 125 bolt hole. The 70 footpegs just have to have two holes redrilled a bit wider. Your'e best to use a CT110 45 tooth back sprocket. It fits up like standard and the gearing is spot on. I have 5 of these 125 70's and one of them has reverse which is pretty wild.

I guess you don't have to weld to get it done. I welded in the front motor mount and a tab to the rear mounting hole to strengthen the frame but I guess some washers would do the trick.
