    regestration Question

ok here's the deal. i was gunna regester my 185 recently. i went to the dmv in ny with all the proper info, orginal title, copy of title, recipt. they said i ahd to get 2 signatures from the two previous owners. no prob cause i know both of them. BUT, i went to my friends house later and was filling out the paperwork, and his stupid, retarted, brainless dog ate the orginal copy of the title. i still have a copy but they said that was no good. is there anyway i could still regester it. just get a whole new one??? help me out guys, really pissed about this!!!

p.s. I wanna rip the dogs head off etc.

If you don't have it, you don't have it. Ask the DMV what do you do next. I had to buy a "defective title bond" for a quad I bought that I didn't get the original title for in order to register it at the DMV in CA. It cost me an additional $100 but I got the registration cleared up and in my name.

Long as the seller gives you a "Bill of Sale" and you have a digital photo of the vin or a pencil scrapping you should be fine. Didn't they see it when you went in the first time? They might make you own it for a year before you can register.... just have the bill of sale be a year ago or so. Also... different DMV's make you jump through different hoops. Geneseo wouldn't let me register it with the Certificate of Orgin, cause it wasn't a "Title"... DMV in Dansville, said yeah... that works and a print out of a close up dig. pic of the VIN and I had tags for the Showgirl.

You do not need a title to register an ATV. Here is a list of the DMV forms you will need (you can print them off of the dmv's web site) MV-82, MV-51, MV-51B, and DTF-802. Other than those forms you'll need to do a vin tracing, take a piece of paper and lay it over the vin on the frame. Then take a pencil and rub over the paper until the vin can be seen.

I've registered 4 ATVs this way. It’s all the required paper work for purchasing and registering an ATV that does not have proof of ownership. I do know how the DMV people can be though, so good luck!

Are you sure you need the mv-51 form. It seems to be for 1972 or older vehicles or non titled vehicles. Is it classified as a non titled vehicle?

The mv-51 is your "proof of transfer form". If you go to the DMV's web site and look at the mv-51B (another form you need) on the second page it tells you exactly how to register a non-titled ATV.

    MV-51B
    MV-51
    Vin tracing or vin photograph
    MV-82
And some form of ID (driver licence)
