    hotter plug

i am running a NGK dr8es,i was reading my spark plug and it looks to be running cold ,what would be a hotter plug to use. It's a 84 honda big red 200es,if i ride in 2nd gear it fouls the plug (dry carbon, not wet and oily) but if i go on a strightaway and get to 4th or 5th gear the plug is normal ,will a hotter plug help.........thanks,svo58

    plug

the next hotter plug is the ngk # 7. the lower the number the hotter the plug.

dry carbon fouling is normally due to eletrical ( weak spark ) ,,, from what i have read anyway ,,,,

I don't have my book in front of me, but from memory the br7es is a different sized plug ( Used in 2 strokes ). The D7EA is a direct fit and they only run $2 from me or $2.50 or so from Napa ( last time I checked ). No I'm not trying to sell any ( other than locally ). Shipping cost makes them more costly.

BR7ES is the "hotter" resistor type 2-Stroke plug. The thumper plugs should start with a D.

Ok, well you got me with that one .... you had to find an ancient bike from the '70's to do it, but you got me ..... BTW - the KZ400/440 manual lists B7ES, not the resistor type if you want to split hairs as the proper plug.

A slightly hotter plug would be the DR8ES-L. It's not as hot as a DR7ES, but a bit hotter than a regular DR8ES. The DR8ES-L is what the 83-85 200X runs. I believe the "L" is half a heat range higher than the 8.

Best advice would be to go with what your manual recomends, then diagnose the problem from there.
