Did you use one of those airbox eliminator kits or did you just rig it up yourself? Got a pic of it?

I'm gonna do it myself real soon. I run with no lid anyway so it's pointless to have the airbox on there.

I would keep the air box and just run with out the lid. I think it gets plenty of air with no lid and the box keeps the filter much cleaner than no box at all.

Sorry, no pics, but the filter mounts to the original air box mount and the box mounts to the frame the same. I just cut away all the surrounding plastic. I ran no lid for years but when I rebuilt the bike from the ground up, one of the things I was trying to acheive was to lighten the bike up as much as possible and even though the plastic doesn't weigh much, every ounce counts and that's how I got it down to 277 lbs, versus the 291 lbs. stock. Since I only ride dunes, I wasn't concerned about the filter getting too dirty.

What else did you remove or replace with lighter parts to achieve 277 pounds? Very nice looking R by the way.

I don't ride in wet conditions so it's really pretty useless. The only thing I have to worry about is dust.

If you run with no lid make sure you clean your airfilter alot. Make sure its always sticky. Then you shouldnt have a probmel. It will only have problems if you dont put in the extra maintince it will need.

It'll give you a little more power if you're jetted properly for it. Won't hurt anything as far as being exposed as long as you have a good filter and keep it clean and oiled (I always use K&N filters). An outerwear sleeve is a good idea too.
