    Thanks BGM. Basically everything that I replaced with the billet aluminum parts is where I saved the weight, plus the ITP wheels and lighter tires helped too. Losing the stock pipe and silencer shaved at least 10 lbs. right there.

    Removing the air box lid and running a better breathing filter such as the
    K & N will give you a slight power gain, but if you ride in mud and water it's best to leave it on.

    hey? wat does a k/n filter in a 85 stock air-box look like?

    i just got mine and it sits sideways in the box and iam confused it doesnt look like a k/n it looks foamy?

    I'm sure they did, but can you still get one is the question. It's possible the 85/86 filter might work if they have the same air box as the 83/84. Anyone know?

    By any chance did you see the article on losing weight on a 250R. I belive they shave about 40 pounds which gave the bike a better power to weight ratio and also helps the suspension and handling characteristics. They used light wheels and alot of replacement aluminum parts as well as a +1 Cal-Fab (aluminum) and an aluminum sub-frame that was available.

    so is my 85
    and a 84 is mounted straight off the back of the carb so no... but they do make a 84 R air-filter
