Anyone here ever tried tire chains on ice?

Do they work OK? Can you go fast with them or will they fling off?

No, I don't want to stud my tires.

i mounted a set of chains up to the stock tires on my 200es along with a plow and they work great!I bought a bunch of chain from a local hardware store and then used a bolt along with 3 washers and a nut to hold them on(about every foot or so),I put a bungee cord in the middle right by the center of the rim to help hold it on.As far as falling off, they have came off on me before and they can be pretty dangerous if you dont keep an eye on them but since the 200es with the plow only goes like 25kms max plowing snow I am not worried.I also had a set on my old 84 125M and that thing was crazy in the snow but I didn't really like them because I had to much traction for doing donuts. If you want to go far in the snow then I would get a set.....hope this helps.

Last year I studded the front and put chains on the rear of my 400ex and had no problems. I let a lot of air out of the tires, put them on as tight as I could and aired them back up. Worked great.

    chains

i also done the chain thing on a 185-s i had years ago. worked great !
i picked up a set of car tire chains and cut them down to fit the tires.
really wouldn't recomend for high speed but for traction they can't be beat.
like smokinp ,,, i found that bunge cords tightened them up the best. i used bunges on the inside as well as the outside to secure down tight.

Yeap, I'm going to order them (eBay) in about 2-3 weeks. I want to figure out this carburetor deal first though (other thread).
