had to put a slightly less shaved head back on, my other one was too hard to kick, like my lt 500r, and kept blowing headgaskets, thats the only problem ive had with it, the carb is a big bell 40.5 mm, off of what, i have no idea, and a 4 by 4 inch uni clamp on to clear the fuel tank, the billet intake takes up alot of space, much easier to ride in the woods on the bottom end, yet pulls ALOT harder on top

    Thumbs up SWEET Tri-Z!

Was it brain surgery putting a YZ top end on the Tri-Z bottom?

The Tri-Z I rode was surprisingly "trail friendly" for a 2 stroke.
I bet yours is SUPERB now!
    GREAT Job!!

That is a nice Z. The 40mm carb is probably off the YZ 250 the motor came from.

I'm glad you posted that. I just bought a YZ engine for mine, and the guy I bought it from offered me another one as well. Now I have to find another Z to put it in!

I was wondering how to do the intake. Doesn't the stock Tri-Z intake fit?

a stock tri-z intake wont work, and the yz inake kicks the carb INTO the pipe, it puts it way over to clear there airbox, mine was cnc machined at east coast atv, the reeds are big 8 petal design, all other year yz are 6 this motor was rebulit after being pulled from the cycle , it is a DIRECT bolt in, every hose etc...'but if you want lights for night rides you must use your flywheel and stator in the yz motor, but if you dont, the yz wiring WILL plug in and work in the z. even the pipe bolts up to the yz cylinder

i forgot, a yz kick backwards so you will need the kicker gears from a z which are not made anymore, and very hard to find

Well, I just received my engine today. I see what you mean about the intake. Damn, that thing is turned bigtime to the side. I can build an intake easy enough, but i'm a little concerned that I don't have a reed cage. Does anyone offer an aftermarket reedcage for the YZ?

Wonder if there's anyway to cross-reference the part number on the intake gasket. See if it's the same up thru newer models.

I was looking for a reed cage and found this one for a 94. Looks like the same general bolt pattern intake. Maybe the newer YZ stuff will work. Just a thought.

Actually, the intake looks damn close to working too.
