For a 200s it will not make any difference in performance to be worth the work.
A lighter flywheel will make your engine rev up faster. This is great for increasing speed along the flat. The negative is that you engine will rev down faster. So if your climbing a hill and start to loose revs then with a lighter flywheel you will loose the speed faster.
If your flywheel is heavier it has the reverse affect.
you only want that mod for a two stroke... i remove 6-8 ozs. from every bike two stroke i have

You want that mod for many 4-strokes. It's not just a 2-stroke thing.Originally Posted by 03 ORANGE SHEE

I'll race you with a 4 stroke.......car.Originally Posted by CHAINSAW
Seriously though, I wouldn't try doing it to a 200s. You could also upset the balance of the engine if you did it wrong. Then it would vibrate itself to death.

all flywheels from the factory (oem) are stamped or cast , when you lighten them, it actually balances them better, even if to take off the outside mm, the bike will be MUCH smoother

Hmm now i needa find me some extras so I can start plain around. My dad has a lathe (sp?) at work.
Lightening the flywheel on an engine with a centrifugal clutch? Seems like a lot of work for a small amount of benefit. Although what 'shee said is interesting. Sort of like brake discs on a car - if they are brand new you still have to turn them or else a HIGH percentage develop warps and general uneven service. The engine that I just took out of an '84 200S seemed to have vibration.... hmmmm... oh well too late I put it into a 200X chassis, we'll see...

Rex where in centeral cali are you? are you going to head to pismo with us?
It's a very popular mod on the 400ex's and not just for drag racing. Even woods guys are doing it! Also I'm sure there are some YFZ's and 450R's that would beg to differ on your drag racing theory. I know there are some crotch rocket motor swaps that would for sure.Originally Posted by CHAINSAW
