Anyone familiar with welders able to advise here?
I know this is cheap.. and some day i would love to get a good 240v unit.
but for now, will this do the job as far as mending broken racks, frame cracks etc... or would it simply be a waste of money ?

Are you talking about the hobby welder?
You can get a wire welder for the same price unless you like using stick welders. I have a cheap wire welder that runs on 110 and it uses a flux core wire or gasless wire. I can also convert it to a gas welder with a couple aftermarket fittings but I have a welder at work if I need something stronger. Its no where near a great welder but it does work great for small stuff like 1/4" thickness and smaller. I made some ladder bars out of 1" square stock (material is probably a little less than 1/4"thick) for my buddies mud runner and they held up without breaking a weld. That stick welder will probably weld a little thicker material.
