I have a 1985 200s and 200x and when I tried replacing the head and tailight on both of them, the lights came on when I started the trikes and blew out as soon as I revved them up??? Any help would be appreciated

The simple reason for this is the stator / generator is producing too much power for the bulbs. I have seen this quite a few times. This could be caused by many different reasons: bad wiring harness, bad ground wire, bad CDI box, and others. What I do to fix this style problem is to install a aftermarket volt pack. The volt pack is basically a 12volt regulator that limits the voltage to 12 volts. These are not that expensive and pretty easy to install ( 2 wires ). If you need 1 or 2 let me know. I think I have some instock.

I can not and will not argue with Howdy,( he is the man,and he is probably correct). I will however suggest that you check your ground carefully. I blew quite a few bulbs before I checked my ground , and since I cleaned off the rust and grime where the ground is connected ,I have not had a problem. Good luck, GREG

I agree. In other aplications this is called a rectifier. Some after market light co. send you inline ones to solve the problem of their lights not being able to handle fluxuations in power.
You can use the stock 350X regulator on a 200x and it will fix the problem. Only one wire to connect.

The rectifier converts AC to DC. Some do have the voltage regulater built into them though. Others are separate units. Howdy is right. Its a clipper circuit that shorts anything above 12v to ground. Its easy to check with a volt meter. Start it, connect to any hot wire. If voltage jumps when you rev to about 40v, the regulater is not working.Originally Posted by a-camp
