I have a cr500 im 6'2 250lbs and it still scares the piss outa me, remember it not how fast it go's, but how fast it gets there. not only can it do 100mph. but it gets there in about 1 block. so you get alot of arm pump just tring to hold on w/o the bike pulling itself from underneth you, HOLD ON ,first gear is almost worthless and the powerband is sick. mine is an 85 and very snappy, im told that they made the powerband more useful in the newer bikes but thats not the case w/mine good luck, be safe

You are very correct about your 85. I had an 84 and an 86 model and they both were pure wicked. They say that the 85 made more horsepower than any other model year built. I now have a 2000 model and it is nearly a dream. It starts way, way easier and does not really have any hit or sudden power surge. It just makes clean, controllable power all the way through the powerband. You can ride it like a trials bike if your want, 1st gear standing on the pegs plunking along, motocross style, jumping whoops etc. or plain trail riding. It hasnt fouled a plug or even seemed load up at all yet. It has a Procircuit pipe and Boysen reeds is all. On the CR500's, I believe that Honda changed the sprocket ratios a bit on the newer ones to smooth out the power. I am very happy with how it has performed so far this season. I owned this bike about 4 years ago and just got it back. Thanks.

be careful! they whelie effortlessly... It really is an overkill of power in my opinion. Unless you are in the sand its useless and a death trap! anything above a 250r is pointless.

P.S. If you are on tar or compact dirt you will whelie

Keep up the good work, with a little more time you can personaly make the sport look even worse then it already does to all the anti's.

i can tell you from experience that a cr 500 is no joke. i had the pleasure of it being my first real dirtbike. boughtn it for a grand and put many a miles on it. it was a 95 cr 500. had it last summer and over the winter and ill tell you what i weighed 296 pounds and the ******* would come up in 5th on me. no bull.now im a measly 245. any speed any time even when i was just luggin round in 4th or 5th all i had to do was twist the throttle and wamm willie. i was clocked behind my friend at 87 mph before we ran out of road.but have fun and wear a brain bucket no sh*t. saved me more than once. cheers
finding a good bike is like finding a good woman, it might or might not happen so hang in there.
