    Parts swap question for tecate

Will the rear wheel , chain , and brake hub from an '86 tecate fit an '84?
The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

This question is refering to the hubs only, not actual wheels and chain

The racers back in the days used to run the smaller diameter hub from the 84/85 bikes on their 86's when they needed to run 8" rims. Double check with Jeb as he owns both generation Tecates.

Curtis, I do know that the racers did use 84 tecate hubs on the 86. I've got mag article on how to build a Jimmy White replica 86 Tecate, and he definitely has 84 Tecate hubs mated to a Finish Line axle. I'm not sure how now because I have an extra set of 84 tecate hubs that came off my 85 Tecate I used to have. When I sold the 85, I kept these hubs specifically for my 86. I tried to put them on my 86 and they wont go, the splines on the 84/85 hubs are much bigger than the 86.

Tecatecrazy, I don't think the sprocket and disc hubs will interchange between the 84 and 86 tecate. The 86 and 84 axles use different bearings. I would check, but I'd have to tear down my 86 Tecate's axle and hub assembly.

My 87 tecate has a +4 aftermarket axle. It has the bigger splines for the 84/85 hubs. I'll bet this was an option from back in the day. I never even thought of it till now. Has anyone else came across one of these?

That's the answer then for the 84 hubs on the 86/87. The aftermarket axles have the bigger splines. In the article I have, it never says anything about that. figures....

Thanks you guys just saved me a bunch of money. I was able to find a set of '85 hubs on ebay (hope I win). I also will soon start looking for some '85 rims because one of my '84 steel rims is bent. doesnt really affect riding though. hey also if any of you guys might happen to have the front fender off of an '84/'85 ( must be red) and are willing to part with it, shoot me an email. jhabinck1@mchsi.com joe

Yes, you won't have any problems with 85 stuff on the 84.

I'm gonna send you a list and pics of parts I'm gonna sell for the 84 Tecate. I'm getting ready to list in the classifieds to. If I don't get many hits, ebay it will be. I want to put some money into my 86 Tecate, 85 Tri-Z, and 82 ATC 70. with the holidays around the corner, money will be tight, so I need an alternate source. My 84 tecate has been in pieces for 2 years now and with the Z and 86, I've just lost interest in the 84. I know after I get rid of it I'll probably hate it, but oh well because I've got some nice and rare items I will probably never have ever again if I sell them. Anyway, it includes some nice red factory plastics.
