My 85. is part 86 !!!

Or i beleive it does.

I bought it as the 3rd owner. ( the 250 SX btw )

The 2nd owner was under the impression that the motor had never been touched, the carb was rebuilt, rear bearings were replaced, and brakes were non-existent.

This past weekend , while detailing it with a toothbrush and WD-40 ( hell.. my cylinder and head are BLACK.. not brown or rusted !! who knew ! LOL ) i noticed a green marking on the dead that says

" 86 ".

something a salvage yard would have done.. bright green paint type stuff ( and it's a PITA to remove.. been unable so far. and i don't want to strip the black from the head.. )

Does anyone know if there are any differences between the 85 and 86 motor/tranny ?

I know the swingarm and rear end is different, as well as the brakes..

Anyone ?

oh.. and can anyone tell me if there is a way of figuring out if it's only the head that was replaced or the entire jug .. or the tranny as well ?

Are they individually marked somehow ?

I'm not sure that I would trust some Joker from a junk yard. Try find the numbers off the engine and post them. Someone can tell you what year the engine is.
