My problem and a 86 Tri Z

Hey guys,

As some of you know I am doing a complete restore on my 84R. I got all my parts and they were wrong!!!. And since I used cash there is no paper trail so I cant get my money back. However- The piston,reeds and gaskets just happen to fit my 1980 CR250. So I could put the parts into the dirtbike and sell that(has everything,fenders,tank,seat....and mint tires+rims) I could sell it for around 1000.
So I was talking to my buddy the other day and he said he has a 1986 Tri-Z for 1800 mint. Everything is there, extra tires and such. I went up and looked at it and it was awesome and it started first kick! I just dont know how he forgot to tell me about it.
So if he wants 1800 for it and I can get a 1000 for my dirtbike and I could sell my 2 R's for around 600+ I could get it with a little extra money and he might give me a deal because I am a friend.
Is 1800 (can) a good price for one?

I don't know what kind of condition the CR250 or your R's are in or what they go for in the great white north, but I would think you should be able to sell them, buy the Z and still have a few bucks left. The same thing applies to the Z, and I may be wrong, but $1800 sounds a little high, unless it's really cherry.

$1800 canadian isn't bad at all for an 86. I'm not sure about $1000 for the bike though

I think the 86 Z is the pinnacle of Yamaha trike design. Why anyone would rather have an 85 is beyond me. Its not like the diff between an 85-86 250R, the differences are HUGE!! I say buy it, $1800 canadian is about right, if its clean,COMPLETE (thats a big one!) original condition, possibly with a pipe and good OEM plastics, GET IT!

it is totally complete, fenders and everything. Now I have to go talk to him about selling to me, might be one of those people that wont sell to friends ( I hope not!). Today and next week im building the Cr 250 and then sell that.

I think 1800 is reasonable for the Z, and you could probably get 1000 or more for the cr250. What I'd do is sell the cr250 (for 1000 or more) then sell the 82 R and whatever is with it for around 500 (I bet you'd get it) then throw some extra cash together and buy the Z. I'd try and talk him down to 1600 on the Z though. That way you could have the mint Z to ride, plus you could finish your 84 R, because from what I've seen, I think you're too far to turn back on that project.

I could keep the 84R, I guess. But my thing is I dont need more than one ride. No trying to attack people with over 1+ rides buts in impractical for me. I will keep it if I get around 500 for the 82R(which I doubt). Im trying to get ahold of my buddy with the Tri Z right now but his phone is busy, and I have to go to work soon so I cant talk to him until monday.
Pistonhead what do you think I could get for the CR?,
I hope I get the Z then I will be flying!
Maybe ill get it for cheaper after a few

Its not out of the question where I am to get over $1000 for that age of CR around here, I'd bet you could pull off 1200, because I've seen old bikes go for that, as long as it runs strong and rides good you will find a buyer who wants it 1200 enough and who has the cash.

Nope, he bought her brand spanking new in 1987. Its his baby, and hopefully ill get it.

Well good luck! An 86 Z was the first ever "sport" trike I saw, I've been a die hard trike man ever since.

yah yah, I know Bruce. But the thing is for Christmas next year (I know its a long way away) Im buying him his old 200 Yamaha.I traced it down and buying it for a few hundred bucks, but I think my dad would like a 250R better lol. I could keep the 82 R. And sell the 84 for around 400. I need about 1800 for the Z. I could keep it for him that would be good surprise.
