    Exhaust leak: 85z

I have all the exhauset doughnuts in, right off of the jug, and the thing still leaks. i just got it running today, about 5 min ago after its been apart for 2 years. i dont get it, it leaked before i ripped it apart, and leaks now, all new gaskets..... thats one of the main reasons i took it apart becouse it made everything so dirty and oily. what could be wrong that makes it leak? there is only one spring that holds it on, right? Thanks

Ultra copper silicone sealer. It will work great for quite awhile. Get it at any auto parts store. Make sure to clean everything real well first.

Whats it leaking?. Fumes are one thing, but if its leaking oily soot - you have a rich engine condition and not a leaky exhaust donut.

yea, you will have to cake it with silicon, and I suggest letting it sit for a good weekend to setup nice. Zs exhausts can be a pain in the butt. I wish they would have designed them like the 250Rs. Be sure to put the silicon on both the OD of the cylinder, and the ID of the pipe. That way when you put the pipe on, both sides will meet, and form a nice wall inside. Dont be afraid to use a whole tube, because all excess that drips down will get blown out after some riding.

If you have a TriZ and the exhaust is NOT leaking, there is something wrong with it!!!

I use the orange hiTemp silicon too.

There is a metal ring that goes inside the pipe where it meets the jug. That helped mine alot.

Yeah both of my Z's are that way, the metal gaskets dont work for me, I have some copper silicone, it worked good for my stang, so should work as good on the Z.

    84 R

My R did the same thing. I just put a butt load of high temp (red) on it about every 3 or 4 races, works great and remember a leaking exhast robs alot of power.

Really? When I start mine up with the choke, there is a lot of smoke that comes from the, head area, maybe that's why I have a lag on the bottom.

Thats what Dana (my engine builder) told me. He said that is the bigest mistake guys make. They put tons of $$$$ in their engines and don't bother to worry about all the back presure they lose with a leaking exhast flange. Like I said I reseal mine every 3 or 4 races or about once a month. try it you'll see what I mean.
