Question why do a few of you not have fork boots...?

I have noticed that a few of you that ride trikes dont have fork boots over the forks. Is this alright to do if i stay away from lots of mud/sand/water?? have you ever had any problems?? Why do you do that..is it for looks or does it actually do something??

    Fork Boots

I dont have any on my Tecate because I'm going for that Clean Look. No stickers, no shock covers. I dont ride mine all the time so I believe its allright.

It's a matter of prefrence as far as looks go. The bad side of it is your fork seals will fail and leak much faster if the boots are not on the bike. I guess they also can help stop the chrome from chipping off the forks by keeping roost from other bikes off of them.

fork boots can also trap dust and other wonderful things under the boots, plus they cost a whack of cash for what you get- and the way I ride they don't last too long.

well the reason that on some of my trikes there are no fork boots is because they got cracked all up from cold weather and just never wanted to put new ones on because i think it looks better with out them on the forks.

I don't run any because of looks and I don't like the idea of dirt ect. getting trapped under the boot. I clean my trike after every race and after I dry it off I put some WD-40 on the forks, I love that look.

some trikes didnt come with boots from the factory. for instance the 85 tecate only came with fork wipers.

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

the 85-86 250r's had wipers as well as boots, i think the boots are overkill for protection for dirt/dust in the forks, if the forks are going to get hit with something big/heavy enough to cause damage, the boots arent going to help much. look at dirtbike forks.....they only have the hard plastic roost deflector things on them, only to deflect potentially damaging rocks etc... so i dont use boots on mine.... it would be cool if they made those roost deflector things for our types of forks...

my reason...i dela with looks later ..i work on the motors to keep em runing. and never have that "whack of cash" to buy them..lol..its the truth they are expensive for a little piece of plastic that u can make with flex hose ( yea i know its rubber)

I dont run fork boots on my 250es cause I cant afford them

    No Kidding.

One day I will get some, I think it looks better with boots on a utility trike.

I don't know what they cost for other trikes but the Daystars I have on my R only ran me like $16 and look better than OEM. I heard you can get generic boots from auto parts stores and cut them to fit.

at my local auto parts store they sell RANCHO suspention spring boots for trucks and they would fit but are a little bit too wide and alittle bit too long they would have to be cut to fit on a trike
