What RPMs you guys running on your racers?

I was looking in a magazine last week (not sure what it was, maybe dirtwheels) and I saw a cdi box that could be ajusted to 18000 RPMs. I think that is insane, so what are you guys running?

Also what RPMs would a stock 85 SX be putting out? So I have something to compare to.

You can adjust you box as high as you want but you wont turn that many R's.
A 250R tops around 10,000 rpm and can go to 11,000 with work,
A 350x tops around 9,000 rpm and takes a lot of work to do any more.
Sorry I don't have anything on an SX.

ok Dirtydan wont believe me that an atv or trike for that matter will do more rpms that a car. How can I prove it to him. Is that specification in my owners manual?

    prove it?

In an instance like this, I'd let him believe he was right. That way he makes a bigger ass out of himself when he tells other people.

Why wouldnt a bike be able to rev more? A bike has less rotating mass, 1 piston (usually), 1 crank. I know my 88 302 only likes to go to about 6500 rpms, and that's an 8 cylinder.

I think his problem is he understands engines very well, but cant see why a car with severals pistons creates the same or less rpms that a single cylinder 250cc engine. When I told him today that my trike does probably 7000 rpms and that his atv makes about the same he said "maybe 700 but not 7000". I dont even think they idle at 700 rpms.

Its not like he is some guy that I met on the site and am haveing an arguement with. He has declared a white flag anyway, so I think he realizes that facts.
