    Westcoast swingarm on a TRX-250R

I just picked up a 1987 TRX-250R that has a westcoast swingarm on it. I need to know what type of chain slide/guide will work with this. I noticed that CAL ATV has the OEM one, but they say it will only work with the OEM swing-arm. This machine only has the small guide on the lower frame. Nothing else, so I figured that I will get PRM swing-arm gurad with a power lip lower guide. What should I use for the upper guide?

    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

My westcoast uses the stock honda chain guide. You should also be able to use the stock one if it has that screw mount on the side of the swingarm. 86 atc and 86-87 trx swingarms are interchangable.

Get a pic and measure the length of it, it looks like its stock or shorter than stock length in your pics.

I beleive its stock length. Good news if I can use the OEM style guide as it saves a big headache. The side screw is there also.

Thanks x.system as you have been helpful to me.

    swingarm questions

... just always on the ATC250R ,I own a 1989 TRX250R so after seeing a picture I might be in the market for one . Are they universal ?, meaning they make only one model swingarm and it can be used on the TRX250R and ATC250R ,or they each have there own model swingarm .

88' and 89' swingers are different.

Only the 86' ATC swingarm can be swapped with the 86' 87' TRX
    86' 250 R
    02' DS 650
    03' Cannibal

This is the first that I ran across a Westcoast swingarm period. You would need to have the question answered by others on the board. It would appear that other parts of the country they were more popular.

From that first pic I'm betting you have a shortened swinger. Alot of people run the 88/89 length swingarms to get better traction. 19" from center of pivot bolt to center of axle is stock for 86/87 and in 88/89 they shortened them down to 18".

On the 88/89 you can run any swingarm, 85 included but you will need all the parts from the 85 to make it work, including the axle, brake mount and carrier. You will also need a spacer for 85 to 87 models so you don't squish the swingarm. The 88/89 has the motor mounts on the frame so this is why you can use any swingarm from 85 to 89. You will however run into problems with suspension setup and will probably need an adjustable strut to get ride height where it is suposed to be but you can run a westcaost on a 88/89 trx.

Just measured and its 18" from center of pivot bolt to the center of the axle.

Now, I have a question I hope you can answer. The westcoast swinger has 4 mount position for the leg that connects to the shock. What is the benefit of each? I know that I could try each, but if I can save myself time, I am all for more ride time.

Those are for adjusting ride height but it looks like you also have an adjustable strut in there so you can use that also for ride height.

Does it have mounts for one? If so give me the measurements and I will check my 88 and 87. If it doesn't have mounts I would go with a 88/89 model and weld in the mounts.
