[QUOTE=Speeder84]I still had mine hooked up on my 200s until this winter when I kept breaking the cord after every pull. Something was binding up so I disconnected it and the trike starts first pull every time. It doesn't make that much of a difference, to me it didn't make it harder to pull with it disconnected.

Quite possible yours was out of adjustment. Too much freeplay in the cable and it won't open the valve to the proper spec. The clamp holding the cable just beyond the lever probably adjust this by moving the cable back and fourth in clamp. I don't have a manual but thats my guess.

Could be it wasn't opening it at all. With it working proper you should most definate feel a difference. Thats what it's there for.

Couldn't you install a hot start lever? Just hook a cable to the decompression lever and run it up to a hot start lever on the controls. That way you can release it quickly one it turns over. Thoughts?

I have the same problem on my 200S. I might go with a Goki.

The reason Honda put them on there was 1. for those with little arms but more importantly 2. To stop the pull starter from breaking or those with 200x's to stop the kick starter breaking. And we have all heard those stories.

Ever noticed that the notches in the top plate on the pull start that holds the dogs in always gets bigger? or the cage that the dogs engage to always gets big grooves or pieces missing? Honda was trying to avoid this.

If you disconnect your cable (which i have) to start it without destroying the pull start, pull the cord till the dogs engage and then pull hard. Do not pull hard from nothing. Mine has high compression so i have to pull mine onto compression first then start again (so the cable is in further) making sure to take the slack up first.

Do this and it will last ALOT longer.
