Just wanted to jump into the waters here and say howdy-ho neighbors! Found this site recently and I must say it has been coming in a close second only to Ford-Diesel.com lately.

Some real good info on here and hopefully I'll be able to take advantage of some soon, as I recently picked up an 86 200x for the wife that I know very little about.

The new trike runs real strong, but sounds as though the valves may need adjusting, saw the post about that with the article on the process, and it looks simple enough, my problem is time.

So I guess my question to you folks here is, since I have more money than time at this point, and may end up taking the trike to the local Honda shop for a good servicing before our next trip, what should I expect to pay for such a service? i.e., valve adjust/clutch adjust/oil & air filters/ brake adjust/new fluids

If I had more time before our trip to Montana I'd try and get to these myself, but that's just not likely to happen.

The mechanic that works on atvs in the shop i go to makes a mesely $35/hr. Anyway welcome to the boards. This place is awesome and there are alot of knowledgeble people here that will do almost anything to help you out.

Well, if you pay them you are looking around a pretty penny for them to do the maintence. The 86 200x valve adjustment takes 10 mins to do. Longer first time. Just because you double check everything. The longest time spent is just pulling the covers. Why Honda didnt come up with this system in their other trikes is unknown to me. But once it is done it is easy easy easy. It is up to you how you want it done. Just find a good trusting shop, if you choose that route. It is my opinion that it will take you longer to load the trike, haul it down to shop, repick up trike.

The shop I worked at briefly charged $60 an hour labor. The problem you will have taking it to a Honda dealership is I really doubt anyone will be able to know the proper specs. I would call them up and ask them if you brought in an 86 ATC200X if they would be able to help you. I know some poor guy brought a 350X at the Honda dealership here had it there for almost a month since they had to wait about 2 weeks for a service manual to come in before they could even start working on it.

Check around, call a few different shops. Try and get someone who seems to know a little about trikes, maybe even your model in particular.

Welcome, I'm pretty new here too and agree it's a great site. My best advice is to buy a service manual and parts fiche off of eBay. They can be had for about $10, well worth it.

Thanks all for the welcome, I went ahead and gave the 200x a better look and and I think it'll survive the weeklong ride session with some minor maintenence that I can do at the cabin. I'll take the advice and get a shop manual off Ebay when I return.

I dont mind the shadetree wrenching at all, (hence the 78' Ford in the sig =D), but with a 5 year old and a 3 month old, time can be a bit short sometimes.

I'll try and snap a few shots while we're in Montana, maybe we'll get lucky and catch some snow.
