I've never seen a true black 86 triz.I dont think they exist. Maybe the guy saw an 86 with 85 plastic.
I wonder if the rear fenders are the same,,I mean the part under the seat. The 85 coolant overflow bottle is under the seat and theres an opening in the plastic for it.I wonder if the white 86 fenders are the same; being that the 86's overflow bottle is on the side attatched to the frame??? hmmmm

Theres an 86 tri-z a few miles from me hiding in a shed. I've never seen it and the guy never wants to sell it.I dont think its been ridden since 1990,guy also has an 86 T3. ,,,be nice if I could get a good package deal on both

Hopefully, the decals would be correct! but now, IDK.

Ive heard a lot, that the red and blacks were actually 85 1/2 year models. All the specs are the same, just different color scheme. Ive also heard that they were one of the first special edition models. Ive also been told that they were not, just a different color option, but no one can give 100% fact on either way.

I made a mistake on the balck Tri-Z. I dont know why, but my fiche finder says 85-86 tri-z 250. Also, when I click on the different decals it should give me the different color scheme options for the red/black/white tri-z's but it does not, it only shows the yellow scheme.... I know this is incorrect. Please disregard my assumption that there is an 1986 black tri-z... I may be wrong ....

You are wrong. Yamaha never produced an '86 Tri-Z with black plastic. I'm sure there is someone out there with black plastic on their '86 Tri-Z, but that isn't the way it came from the factory.

Because the black one was an 85 1/2 model some people called it an 86. In fact, the original owner of mine argued with me that it was an 86 despite having all the characteristics of an 85 (and saying "1985" on the steering head!)
    CURRENT RIDES:
    1988 Tri-Z 350 Twin
    1985 1/2 Tri-Z
    1984 IT490

And that's the bottom line right there. It says "1985" on the steering head, but because it was a 1985 1/2 model, idiots round up to 1986, and then sell it as such. The misinformation just keeps on spreading like an epidemic. For some reason, people refuse to believe that they might have been misinformed, so they just keep on spreading the BS.

Amen! That annoys the piss out of me. I need parts that came on the 86 modle only, so when these people swear they are parting out an 86 I get stuck with the wrong part.
