The WR500 I remember form the early 90s was basically a YZ490. Same air-cooled motor with the wide ratio tranny. I do remember some YZ360s from the same time frame that were based on the 250s. They were kits.

My buddy has a 84 YZ 490, 4 speed, and it is a brute of a motor it has a ton of compression, and it has a lot of power, but it does vibrate a lot unfortunately, I have rode it quite a bit it is a good all around bike, but it fouls plugs every now and then and he is running 50:1 Klotz. The YZ 465 was a superior motor as far as I know, having not ridden one though I can't really say,and 5 speed to, so it may be a better motor to use. The old 360 motors were good to, but a tad outdated, we used to have a DT 360 it was a good ole bike. Any yamaha or honda motor is really pretty good, but I say the 465 may be the best pick if the cases are the same like Tim said. As far as the wr 500's I have heard that they didn't run real well for being 500's as far as power goes.

I would love to see someone put a wr426 motor in a tri-z, That would be a beast of a trike, with a wide ratio tranny to boot! Has anyone on here ever done a 4-stroke conversion on a sport tirke like that??
