actually, all engines have a "powerband" all it is is the point in the RPM range where the engine makes the most power. It is most noticeable on a 2 stroke, because they tend to make ALOT of power at a specific narrow RPM range, and it hits hard, due to the fast revving nature of the 2 stroke motor.

And to answer your question raptor. That is to all the people who believed or thought that you could "buy" a powerband (and believe me.....there are still people out there that believe this im sure), and to tell them that a powerband cannot be bought, and it is a mixture of quite a few things that make the "powerband"
I would have to agree. This site is for preserving trikes and to do that the younger crowd has to take an interest. If we send guys to the parts counter and they get laughed at that will put a bad task in their mouth and they will relate trikes with getting laughed at. So I will no longer try to take advantage of some one's ignorance. Instaed, I will make a real effort to help out in nay way I can.

I must admit that I laughed like crazy for a while over this - and almost wanted to tell the poor guy to make sure to purchase the appropriate left or right-handed model and make sure it was metric instead of inch...

Anyhow, here's my try: Two strokes have a more pronounced "surge" because of the flow dynamics that make them work. Whereas a four stroke engine simply "pumps" air/fuel in exhaust out, a two stroke is much more complex from a flow standpoint.

In a two stroke the air/fuel is being sucked in while the exhaust is simultaneously being pushed out. This process is managed by the reed valves, port sizes and shapes, and the exhaust pipe itself. For most of the rev range the process is somewhat inefficient and out of balance but at a certain point, usually 3/4 throttle or so, all of the flow dynamics match up and magic happens. Sometimes this is called "coming on the pipe."

This is also why adding a pipe to a two stroke has a greater impact on power characteristics than on a four stroke.

Ahhhh, but having the ability to realize that you're stupid is what really makes you smart, and puts you on the path to recovery. A lot of people go through life being about as smart as a toolbox and never know it.

Actually, one of the main purposes of powervalves is to smooth out & broaden the power delivery of a 2 stroke engine. That way there is more usable power throughout the RPM range, instead of a narrow burst of power.

Actually a toll box is use full, a stupid person is not. So that would not be a fair comparison.

No, I would not want to be that person , but I would like to be there in person to witness the parts guy's reaction.
