a new oem tank will set you back a couple hundred, plastic gas tanks are no good, best thing you could do is get yours redone.

    How Bad?

Post pics of how bad it is. Mine was pretty bad and I got it fixed for 60 dollars. The best thing to do is find someone who playes around in his garage to fix it for ya.

see the before and after pics. cant see much from the pic but I assure you it was pretty bad before.

Xccelerator, Why do you say the plastic ones are no good? Just curious, I was thinking about getting one for one of my X's.

I dont like them because the turn yellow eventually. Cant do anything about it either. I have a buddy that had one that split open on a jump and belched fuel onto his hot motor. Luckily it didnt light up. Plenty of people have had good luck though. I prefer metal. Just Re-doit. LOL.

I don't have any problems with the Clarke plastic tank on my 350x other than decals wony stick to it. Doesn't really matter when you are riding since your knees cover most of the tank.

WARNING: This opinion comes frome someone that actually rides his trike and cares more about performance than looks but my bike cleans up pretty nice.

My Clarke tank that I just unloaded turned a dark cream color. Looked like trailprotrailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro. It was a few years old. Sanded it down and it helped just a little. Not near enough. Got $35 on ebay for it and went with a metal tank. Repainted it and fixed the dings. Acid washed the inside. Looks mint now with the new decals. If you have a good paint job put on it, plan on spending more than $60. $60 will prob get you a acylic enamel pain job. A base coat clear coat paint job is much more durable and much more gas resistant. A pint of white ( the minimum you can buy) is $28. A pint of clear is about the same price, then you need hardner for the clear and reducer for the paint. Thas adds a few more $$$. Good paint isnt cheap. Add that up and then think about the labor for painting a fixing dings. It costs money. But me. Personally. I would rather pay the money to have a sweet original looking metal tank that will not make stickers bubble off. Decals wont stick to a plastic tank. Just food for thought.

Body filler. Works perfect. Just dont sand too much off or not enough. Rough the metal up real good before you apply it. You can use Bondo brand from the parts store. qt should do it. I use a fiberglass based filler. Little tougher and higher in quality. instead of $5 for a Qt its about $14.
