Hi guys and gals. right ive seen alot of mixed opinios on this board and would like to get things cleared up and straght!

    1. Best way to brake a 1982 250r engine in?
    2. whats the best oil and what kind to go in the engine?
    3. whats the best mix for oil with gas? 300ml to 4 litres?
    4. jetting... if its warm my trike will start easy with its current jet setting. and if its cold it will be harder?

For colder weather I run 10w-40. For the summer I run 10w-30. I dont know the brand but go to where you buy oil and get some nice expensive stuff. Then you know its good (or atleast it should be).

I use HP2 synthetic racing oil for my tecate, seems to work good I run a 32:1 fuel mixture so for every 4 gallons of gas you add one quart of the HP2. There is going to be a lot of differing opinions about this, but this is what i have used from the day i bought my trike, HP2 is also a Honda product

This may differ from other peoples break in but what I do after top end build is ride around untill motor is at temp w/o kicking in powerband. When it reaches full temp stop and let cool down COMPLETELY. when it cools down start the process again for 3-4 times total. Hope this helps

for oil I run TRC (Texas refinery corperation) in all my trikes, cars, lawnmowers, and whatever. it is perfect for super long engine life, and it will actually clean a dirty and damaged engine!!! Only set back it's like 4 times the price of regular oil. As far as two strokes i donno since all i got is 4 strokes.

1 - Start it and ride it like you plan to, after awhile shut it down and check the bolts, then thats it.. If something is going to break it will break as soon as it starts.
2 - There is ALOT of good oil, its all personal preference, some people swear by klotz, other blue marble, I personally like Amsoil, but anything will work.,, In the tranny I run 10w30 amsoil year round, some people run thinner oil in the winter for easier starting, but good oil (such as amsoil) is formulated for easier starting in all weather, and to resist thickening in colder temperatures.
3 - All depends on how you jet. I run nice fat mains with a 50:1 mixture.
4 - Do a plug check and see where you are at.
Give me no lip and I tell you no lie.

You have the climates or the oils reversed.

Should be 10W40 for summer and 10W30 in winter.

Don't use a energy conserving oil or synthetic in the motor , it will cause your clutch to slip! You can use almost any oil other then that just make sure to change at freqent intervals. It doesn't have to cost alot to give proper lubrication.

I bought the tranny/crank oil at Honda. Said it was specially formulated for all 'R' 2-stroke motors.

I agree with 1984kxtTecate on the HP2 2-stroke oil mix. I've always used that oil mixed 32:1 in my 2 strokes and it works great.

Nope... backwards... synthetics have "super" lubricants in simple terms.... don't you have "friction" plates in your clutches? So....

"super" lubricant + friction plates = slipping clutches

yes i agree they will slip, suposedly, but i havent had any problems with mine, i use AMS-OIL 0w-40w full synthtic 4 stroke oil....says right on the bottel for use in wet clutch atv's...works great and it makes the bike 10 times easier to start in -30 weather, mind you this is a 4 stroke, with a 2 stroke starting wont haven any effect on it
