well.... that's a different story! Synthetic car motor oil is what I am talking about. Has friction modifiers in it. That would be the bad stuff for clutches.

An oil with this label (circle) on with NO "energy conserving" print in the bottom 1/2 is fine for trannies. All oils have this label or at least should. This is exactly how it should look for oil that you CAN use.

Ive never had a problem running any off the shelf automotive oil, synthetic or otherwise in a 2 stroke bottom end. Synthetics dont necessarily lube better. They last longer before breaking down, and breaking down is a chemical process from combustion byproducts, something you dont get in a two stroke. So there are no real benefits to running synthetics in a two stroke case, but its wont cause any problems either.

Ive got a simple question for everyone who feels that better quality oil counteracts the benefits of "friction" plates. What is the purpose of the oil your clutch is bathing in? If you understand the answer to that question, the real purpose of teh oil, it is easy to conclude that the better your clutch is lubricated, the less likely it is to slip.

If anybody really cares why this is so, Ill be happy to explain it, but its usually one of those topics where everybody has their mind made up, so Im not going to twist anybodys arm to see it my way. Ill simply challenge them to get the years and years of slip free sevice I get from a clutch.
