How much you think it would cost to repaint a 350x tank?

My tank has no dents and the paint is scratched in a few places but not rusted that bad. Do they just sand it down some or completely strip and reprime and paint?

it depends what you want. Powdercoating will be more, but for me regular painting with dupont clear coat is good enough. My tank had some serious dents and I got it fixed and painted for only $60.

I am working on one for a baord member right now. PatBlackwell from Baton Rouge. In materials it will cost $70 to $90 depending on if your painting white or red. Red his high dollar. That is for a basecoat clearcoat paint job. Thats the type of paint new cars are painted with. Acrylic enamel is much less expensive. Thats prob why you paid $60. Unless you had a surplus of supplies laying around. I just bought a pint of White today for $28. It requires its on reducer. A Qt of clear (smallest you can buy runs $15 + $15 for the hardner. Without the Paints reducer ( comes in gallons ) your already looking at $60 and thats PPGs economy line paint. Their deltron is about 4 times that much for the same amount. Acrylic enamel is not near as durable and wont hold up for near as long. With basecoat clearcoat, you can wet sand scratches out and buff the paint back out and it will look new again. Cant with the Acrylic enamel. Oh yeah base/clear is much more gas resistant. If you spill gas on the tank, it will NOT effect the finish or shine. The same cant always be said for the A.E. I would say for a good base clear paint job your looking at prob $140. Thats me. Materials arent cheap, and your looking at about 6 hrs to stip a tank, prime it, fix the dents, apply base coat ( 3 layers ) then apply Clear coat ( 3 layers ) Its s time consuming process. The bigger the dents are, the longer they take to fix. Hope this helps. Im not trying to be a know it all Maine Triker at all, but I have had MANY people say they had their car painted with a clear coat paint job. Built in clearcoat they say. They are confused. Clear coat is a seperate process. Acrylic enamel has a clear looking thinner and hardner that is put in it giving the appearance of "clear". If not, you got a DEAL on some paint.

the reason I only paid 60 was because I found a guy who does really cheap jobs and had tons of paint hanging around, and he's awesome too. he even corrected some mistakes for free.

Yeah Same here on my first tank. I found out today how good a deal I got. Honda passion red is high dollar stuff. A pint runs $58. A pint. A friend painted my tank and sidecovers on a old bike for $50. He lost money. I feel bad. That stuff is HIGH.

Powder coating is way cheaper in terms of material isn't it? I know getting it done isn't but the materials are right?

Clay have you used any House of Color products? I do a little paint work, mostly as a hobby, and mainly motorcycle tins. I mainly use Dupont or PPG depending on what the customer wants, but I have been wanting to try the House of Color line of paint.

Our painter tried it on a motorcycle and ended up doing the job twice, he wont use it again

My streetbikes have clearcoat over the stickers. Is autoclearcoat safe to spray over tank stickers, or do i need a special laminated sticker first? I just dont want to have the tank perfect and try it and find out it eats my decals and ruined the paintjob.

I have had 2 tanks done that both had some serious dents in them. they hit me for around 100 a pop. A riding buddy of mine owns a body shop so that helps... the biggest catch is that I kinda have to wait around for it (he doesnt make it top priority).

No I have never used the house of color stuff. The tank stickers can be done 2 ways. Get the regualar normal wing decals and put them on the base coat, then clear over them to seal them inside the clear. Or you can go with the laminated decals that are gas resistant. Harlan Lysne has both kinds.
