A few questions on the ealry 250r's

Ok, well first, what is needed to switch the '81 rear drum style brakes to the '82 disc setup?

Second... I'm pretty sure, but need a confirmation...the '83 and '84 front end bolts right onto the '81 and '82 frames without any mods, correct?

Third, are there any four bolt hubs that will interchange with an '81 or '82 axle?

    Thanks

P.S. All this is about my '81 250r. Well, right now it has an '81 frame and an '82 motor.

You will need a complete 82 R rear end setuip, No the 83-84 R frontend will not bolt up without any mods. the 83-84 uses a tapered bearing.

200x hubs will interchange with your rear axle, so will 83-84 R hubs

3rd - Only the '81 had the 3 bolt hubs - ATC200X hubs will mount as well as '82-'84 R hubs
2nd - I do not believe they are a direct bolt on
1st - You need an '82 swingarm because of the mounting tabs, axle and disk as well as the correct reservoir/brake pedal.

Yeah.... what they said! I'd keep the fat tire up front, but that's just me.

The 82R hubs are 4 bolt, but they are not 4/110. I've used both 200X and 83-84R hubs on my 82R to get the 4/110" wheels to work. Some have used 300EX quad hubs too to gain about an inch of width both sides.

The hardest part of swapping to a rear disc would be mounting the master to the frame. With all the welding/fabrication needed I don't think it would be worth it. My 81 with the drum brakes locks the rear tires up no problem so you might just want to fix yours.

Hey, thanks guys for the info. I'm now considering selling my '81 frame and just buying an '83 or '84 frame to keep things simple and factory looking. Personally I don't like big fat tires and that metal tank and plastics look on the 81 and 82 models.

I like the retro styling You hurt my lil feelings and my 82R is crushed too.

If you can handle a 250R motor strapped into that frame, you can drive about anything!

Still debating about what to put my 300R motor into.... part of me wants to put it in another 82R chassis, since I got tons of spare 82R parts, another part of me wants to put into a 83-84R chassis just because of the upgrades to the suspension and general geometry of the trike.
