I know I can not re mount the black piece on the back,, other than that what differences are there? Does it have the indent for the kickstart? How closely does it match the originals?

Well as far as i know,it would match up pretty good,but nothing like the original plastic,plus has more of a glossy finish then a shine like the orginal plastic. Some people like it ,some people don't.
P.s. yes it does have the indent for the kickstarter

i had gotten a rear with a bunch of stuff and i thiught it was a real close match excepting the rear mud flap as you noted. it was from old stock and the plastic was same dullish colour as all are old stuff is.
seems the kick starter area was a little different but still had a recess spot that done what it was designed for. i sold it and kept the better stock rear fender.
mine was the red 85 modle.

Theyre not AS Sturdy (although the SHINY ones are fairly close)..THey dont have the kicker grip/protector thing where the indent is (but they do have it).

about a month ago i went to servicehonda site and bought the rear mud flap. showed like it was still availabe and the next day i got a confirmation on it. i was beside myself with excitement and planned on buying seral more. a day or 2 afterwards i got a e-mail from them that they had been dis-continued. bummed out to the max. price was like 55 - 60 dollars
oh well,,, hope they have your fenders !
