    ATC startup problem

My buddy has an 84 Honda ATC 70 and when he bought it the 3 wwheeler
smoked for 15 minutes after startup. So he took it to the local shop and the did alot of work to it(head job, rebuild carb, honed cylinder and intalled new rings. Since he got it back everytime on startup it will crank and idle fine but as soon as he hits throtle it cuts off. Then he says he has to pull on it 50 or 60 times before it starts. Then after it starts it takes 15 minutes for it to start running right. It spits and sputters and pops and while he has throtle mashed it does this for 15 minutes but after he says it runs awesome. The shop has said maybe a carb problem or even something with the magneto. Does this sound true. I personally think since when he took it the first time it was a totally different problem than it has now that maybe the shop had something to do with it. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks Brian

    Carb adjustment.

Once it stalls out, is the plug soaked ?

I have one and the neighbor across the street. They both are very quirky when it comes to cold starts. He even bought a brand new carb for his, and it didnt help a bit. Crazy thing is that EVERY thing else is brand new. condensor, points were properly gapped also. New coil, the works. Still is a bear to crank.

Its carb adjustment. Its running too lean when its cold. Try mucking with the choke when you try and rev it. Sounds to me that you need to move the clip on the needle down a slot and see how it behaves. It might run ok once warmed up but it might run better once you move the needle.
