Hi guys,
This winter's project "rider restoration" is about done. I had fun working on this one, and learned a little too.

Very nice job! I know I wouldn't mind seeing some more pictures. I rode my neighbors '81 750 custom last summer and was very suprised at how smooth it is. What did you have to do, was it a general clean up or a lot of work?

Here are a few more, unfortunately, I have not mastered resizing pics on my photo program, so we'll see if they all go through.

The bike received rebuilt forks, rebuilt brakes, a new o-ring chain and fresh paint with hand pinstriping from a friend at Marge Schott Chevrolet in Cincinnati. He did a bang-up job. Since the bike was set up as a 70s chopper/touring bike, I had to find original used parts on ebay, such as seat, grab bar, turn signals, footpegs, airbox, etc. All metal parts except the frame were removed, sandblasted, and painted or polished (as best I could). I also bought countless new OEM honda parts, and gave the fuel and electrical system a thorough grooming in order to get it running.

The bike runs great now, and looks pretty nice too, it gets a lot of attention, particularly from people who have been around motorcycles for a while. If I had it to do again, I would have painted the engine and frame, then it would really stand out. Overall, I'd give it an 8/10, which is fine by me since I fixed this up to be a rider.

WOW, that looks great. I think it looks fine (from the pics atleast) without painting the engine, if it came painted then it would be different. Was there a special reason for chosing this bike to redo?

I was really looking for a DOHC model, like an 81 or 82, but after a couple deals fell through, I got a little anxious and bought this one. I really like the older style look, but don't want to put too many miles on this one since it only has 14K. I might be getting an 81 CB900F in another month or two, so this one will have to go. For some reason I get bored with these bikes once they are complete. I think I like working on them more than I do riding them.

lol, Yeah I end up spending more time working on stuff then I do riding. Once I get it finnished it is time to sell so that I have funds to start the next project. It's just nice to have something there that you can just go out an ride though. The CB900 is that the model with the hi-lo subtans?

The 900C and 1000C had a hi-lo tranny, the 900F was the first Honda to begin to incorporate "crotch rocket" style. Though I'm no crotch rocket fan, the 900F is truly a piece of motorcycle history, and still a pretty fast bike.

That is a nice bike. I am a fan of the older bikes as well. The parts are easy to find. I like the styling, and they can still move. I have a 1979 CB750F that was my winter project. I am hoping to hold onto it for at least a few years. It moves along just fine and the 900/1100 are just that much better. I don't have any current pics yet though. Should get out for the first ride of the season pretty soon though.

Pretty sharp looking bike man, you're coming right along on it. THese bikes really are a blast to work on, easy to find parts, and they clean up nicely. I hear the DOHC motor has significantly less valve noise than the old OHC-4s do. I'm really looking forward to getting this 900F (free is too good to pass up), but it is being restored right now, and won't need any work

Thanks. I saw it in the paper and wasn't expecting anything too nice given the price. I ended up being able to drive it home....it wasn't the smoothest, but it made it. It was last registered in 1987 until I put it back on the road last fall. I have a couple of Yamaha seca's that are my new project bikes. The Honda shouldn't need too much more at this point.

vabch350x-------holy crap that is one nice arse muther fuding bike ya got there, i got a few streetbikes my self, i got a cb400 with the hondamatic tranny, i recently cleaned the carbs and repainted the tank and frame and side covers on that one its for sale for $500, i also just go running for a frind a cb500honda it had a seized engine and the timing was off, a half hour afer we drug it home we got er' runnin and driving, then we just picked up a cb750honda for 100 that bike is in ok condition but i am planning on trying to get that bike to run again later this week.
