I'm sure this has been asked but I searched and couldn't find an answer, so what year XR200 motors had 6 forward gears, second could you bolt the whole XR motor inthe 200X without to much trouble? If not is it possible to get another gear into the 200x? I am rebuilding my X and hope to be done late spring but I wanted to know what to do motor wise, I also thought about sending the stock motor to PowrollJust give my my best options guys>>thanks. By the way it is an 85 200X.

In '84 a guy in the 200cc class took a entire trany (gear set) out of a XR200 and put it in the 200x. Fits perfect and no mods necessary. Thinking what a waste of a XR??? NO. He put the 200x gear set in the xr and sold it. XR has a close ratio 6 speed and would let him get through the gears faster than I could. I was cool.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong but this is what I have gathered. You can use any year XR200 transmission except for the '84-'85 model (the one with the dual carbs.). For the swap you use all the transmission parts from the XR (gears, shift drum, shift shaft, ect.) except for the kick start shaft. You use the X kick start shaft with the XR gears and everything on it. You can bolt in the XR motor but then it will kick start backwards instead of forward so it will hit the plastic. This is why you need to use the kick start shaft from the 200x when doing the transmission swap. Basically the shaft and clutch covers are different which is what makes the 200x kick forward.
Poweroll would be a very good (from what I hear) but expensive option.

From what I understand Powroll does not do engine builds...only machine work.

they do however do crank work, and can stroke your xr or x crank to make it a whopping 218cc and they claim can match or better a stock xr250
Caution
Do not "POP WHEELIES" and run for any distance with the ATC. The oil capacity is relatively small and the oil will drain out of the oil pump area thus causing loss of oil pressure, resulting in costly engine damage -CLYMER
