Ok, I just went out and took the oil filter off my Honda 300. If you put the rubber seal against the spring, you put the filter on BACKWARDS. The rubber seal is supposed to go against the filter cover and the circle shaped indent on the other side of the filter (opposite from the seal) is supposed to go against the spring. All I can say is DO NOT run the engine anymore until you make sure the filter is on correctly. If it is put on backwards, it blocks the oil flow from circulating, which means no lubrication. I hope you didn't run it too long already.
