    Bad Oil change

My buddy brought his bike here, a honda 2x4 300 and we changed the oil and replaced the filter. I put a little over two litres in it and it came to the line on the stick. I thought I put the filter in right. When we drove it it got really hot and smelled like something was burning. Does anyone know if I did something wrong.

make sure the filter went in the same direction it came out !!!!!

I don't have my manual in front of me, but the filter only goes on one way !!!

Did you spill any on the motor? The smell might be just oil burning off the motor.

my 300 takes 2.3 litres of oil in the crankcase but i just found out (amazing what you can find out if you read the manual) the diffrential thingie (on the front of the engine) {oh ya its only on4x4} takes 200 ml of regular motor oil

Ok, I just went out and took the oil filter off my Honda 300. If you put the rubber seal against the spring, you put the filter on BACKWARDS. The rubber seal is supposed to go against the filter cover and the circle shaped indent on the other side of the filter (opposite from the seal) is supposed to go against the spring. All I can say is DO NOT run the engine anymore until you make sure the filter is on correctly. If it is put on backwards, it blocks the oil flow from circulating, which means no lubrication. I hope you didn't run it too long already.
