    86 250r

Well after looking for a little while for a faster rig to replace my so to be sold 86 200X, I found a 86 250R in the paper. It says ORIGINAL. So what are the trouble spots on these. I know it is water cooled and 2 stroke but that is pretty much it. Tell me what I should look for and what I should expect. Is this the quad beater I always dreamed of? or at least the raptor beater? The better question is, is this the rig I aways needed to ride with my wifes 400EX?

they are great trikes and realy fast it will be able to beat the 400ex and rapter pretty easily
and with a little bit of aftermarket mods they can be made to destroy just about anything
parts are still pretty easy to find also

only thing * need to look for is piston slap, the rest the engine is pretty bullet proof the stock R's are very nice machines with little problems if any at all stock they take anything from th 400ex-banshees stock to stock, * add pipe jets and a k.n and watch it fly

im not sure what they're called but they look like little slices of rubber right on the bottom carrier. I was told that the swingarm will start splitting right there.

    Thumbs up

Take it from me.....you will love it.
I've never looked back since getting mine.
    They're LIGHT, nimble and FAST!

You know the "standard trike maintenance" routine when buying a used one I'm sure, right?

Almost every trike I get tends to need these items so check them and figure them into your purchase price:
    1. Front wheel bearings (grab and wiggle back and forth....sometimes they're so bad you can shake the forks and it'll rock)
    2. Reseal/re-oil the forks (moisture around seals or if they're dry-squeaking)
    3. Some brake work (excessive handle travel, squeaking, rotor damage)
    4. Most of the time....rear axle bearings (grab the axle on both sides and yank).

    You made a great choice.
Don't let the "Man, that thing is FAST!" thought scare you, either.
    They are FANTASTIC woods/trails trikes!!!!

    Right on.

If there are no cracks, make sure there's a case saver.
If there isn't one? BUY ONE...they're CHEAP insurance.
You don't want to be replacing a side cover....they're around $250-300 per side if memory serves me right.

You can't beat a good, solid R for "bang for the buck".

I have MAYBE $1900 in mine and it'll keep up with if not outrun (depending on rider skill) a lot of sport quads that cost almost 3 times that much.

It's always nice to walk away from a new bike with my dinosaur.

I just talked to the guy and he said it is all stock but when he bought it, it needed rebuilt so it has a new piston. Everything else but the rear tires are stock. He has lost interest and it has sat for 2years but he went out oiled the cylinder and quirted some gas in the plug hole and it started and ran on the 1st kick. It is aways from my house so I may have to wait to go see it.
