    new or old 250r?

    My dads buddy is giving me an older 250r "before 1985" and i was just wondering how much faster the newer 250r's are?

    the watercoolers(85 & up) had quite a bit more power which equals more acceleration.
    i would think they had faster top speed too.

    My 83R will spank a 400ex upside the head pretty well. I have many many things on it too though. BTW, I see you are new PIGGA so welcome! Oh, and Im sure if you do a search in the forums here, you will find plenty of 250R info....

    yea i like my 200x but my freind talks crap about how much faster his 400ex is so i want to get this 250r to shut him up

    81-84 R's can take and spank a 400ex stock to stock and pull at least a 2 biek lenght lead, i had 2 airs now i got one of each (water-cooled, air-cooled). the air-cooled by far is coolest first twostroke trike * will have, its a blast, great low-end torque and just keep pullin from the bottom to top, the water-cooled is defenly a step up but it takes the skill * learned on the older stuff to ride and grow even more skillful on the water-cooled, the powerbands on the two bikes are night and day, the air-cooled will almost always be in reach, were sometimes the water-cooled takes full throttle droppin a gear or gears to get back into the high rpm powerband. the water-cooled R's had a stated 39 horses were the air-cooled had about 28 on a 84 and drop about two horses for the 82 and 2 more for the 81, try to see if its a 82-84 they had disc brakes with a little more techonolgy every year. the 81 was the first year out in production, even tho its a great atc its got the first trip around the block flaws with many the drum as most and little preformance things carb,pipe, thats about it 82-84 is when honda got its act together. good job on the find and i hope we get some pics soon
