    Opinion on high octane fuel

I just want some opinions on running hi octane gas when it's not needed. Does it give you more power? Example. Lets say you had 2 brand new identical 400EX's. You have 93 ocatane in one and leaded 110 octane in the other. Will the bike with the 110 be faster? I thought I knew the answer to this but I've seen a few things lately that really have me wondering.

Just wasting your $$ in my opinion. High octane burns slower and you actually lose power. Best way is use the octane recommended for a stock bike. If it pings then up it till the pinging goes away.

I read quite a bit on it too and always found on a high performance engine that needs it, use it, other wise stick to the octane recommended.

It does actually burn slower. Your motor will run cooler which in turn makes power, however in two stock bikes I agree with Huffa it is a waste of money. You will probably never feel the power increase going from premium to 110 octane in a stock machine.

Very true. The higher the octane, the cooler a engine will run. That is why you don't use 85 octane in snowmobiles. The lower the octane, the hotter engine temperature it runs, thus burning a nice hole through your piston top.

Thanks guys, thats pretty much exactly what I thought. Weird thing happened to me though. Me and my buddy both have 450R's both have cams and exhaust and jetting. He weighs about 50 pounds more than me so when we race I always beat him. We always run 93 octane. He filled up with 110 leaded and now he beats me! We are going to put 110 in both of them and see what happens!

Will do, we haven't had a chance to do this yet. My buddy cracked some ribs so he hasn't been riding. He's amost ready to go though.
