    help on 250sx forks

as some of you know, i'm doing a somewhat "restoration" (powdercoating parts, frame, etc) on a 85' 250sx. I noticed the other day that the forks are rusting a little bit towards the top 3 or 4 inches in the chrome. Any suggestions how to fix this without spending a fortune or putting a 200x front end on it? I dont think a 200x front end would be good for me because i want to mud bog and a narrow tire wouldnt be too good i dont think.
