I would see if a 230 quadsport motor would fit in there. Those things are insane.

Yeah, insanely underpowered. He would be better off with a 200X motor - they are both rated at 12hp and he wouldn't have to deal with the sideways kicker. I have heard of 250X/300EX conversions - that might be an idea. You would pick up about 4/5 hp, right off the bat. If you pipe it, a bit more.

a 350x engine would be too big i think...a 2 stroke would be your best bet. maybe try a blaster engine, huge aftermarket supply and quite a good engine.

You guys are nuts talkin like any motor swap would be easy. The 350x, 250x and 300ex motors are all about the same size and would be big enough to require some fab work. Out of the 3 the 350X motor would be the easiest because of it's dual exhaust, the other 2 motor's exhaust would run right into the frame. The 230 is another flop without serious mods due to it's exhaust running right into the frame too and as said before it would be kind of a pointless swap anyway. The 230 is no powerhouse and the 200 has more mod options. The 125 sounds cool but if you have an 83-85 200x forget about it unless you want to rebuild the whole front of the frame. Also custom pipes aren't cheap and by the time you add up all the little things you would have spent more money then just selling what you have and buying an R. If your heart is set on this conversion and your willing to spend the time and money then go for it. If your looking for cheap power(cheaper then buying an R, Z or T3) then forget it, your wasting your time.

If you really want a 2-stroke in there, look for a CR125 motor to swap in it.

A XR200 or 250 would be another good choice. Dirtbikes have more power compared to ATV's and trikes. If it were me, Id look for a XR250. Anyhow, Good luck!

I forgot all about those weird ass kicker's why would you do that?
Why would you swap in a 350x? Just buy a 350x, less hastle and probably about the same price as the install.
I have seen a pic of the 250x/300ex install, that would be a way to go. Reliable, 5speed with reverse, and depending on how you go, kickstart or electric, decent aftermarket supply too.
I would say though that the 125 or blaster 200 swap isnt a bad Idea. The power level will probably be about the same as the 200x, but after you get into some pipes, porting, and what not, that sucker will really rip.

We are currently working on putting a CBX250 motor (like an XR250) into a 83 250R. We are a little short on parts for the R, we got the frame from the junk yard. Our other thought was to convert the CBX250 into a trike.

Should be interesting but at least its electric start...

    A 350X motor will fit in a 200x? No.

A 200X motor is the best soloution. If you want to waste money (in a good way) the go to www.powroll.com and buy some 200X motor hopups and enjoy.

Whats wrong with your stock motor anyway?

I was looking at a pe185 (2-stroke) motor the other day, and the bottom mounts look quite similar to the 200x. the exhaust port comes out to the right side i think (angled) it would be a nice conversion. the motor is probably quite similar to a blaster motor
    Caution
Do not "POP WHEELIES" and run for any distance with the ATC. The oil capacity is relatively small and the oil will drain out of the oil pump area thus causing loss of oil pressure, resulting in costly engine damage -CLYMER

Even though I say he should just buy an R, I gotta ask...

Have you ridden a new 125 lately? My 5 year old YZ was rated at 32.3 hp. The '01 CR was 31.5 hp. It wouldn't be slow by any means.

IT motors in general are pretty good. I used to own an IT250, and I've seen a 175 in action. Pretty good snort for a 25 year old motor, and they're air cooled for an easier swap. Even the old Honda Elsinore engines make good power. I'd say if you have to swap though, keep it all Honda.
