    Nitros???Super Changer...???

    Hey,
I am just curious if you guys have ever heard anyone HIGHLY modifying a trike and adding Nitros, super charger, etc. to one. I think it would be wicked sweet to see a supercharged 350x suped up with some Nitros ....I've seen some supercharged quads and some that run on Nitros. Anyways, just thought i'd ask, I've been wondering for a while now .

    See ya

the only experience i had with that was me and some friends put nos on a ct70. it was a blast for about a day then the thing started smoking horribly and lost compression. i think we burned a hole through the piston. if that is any help

Sorry, I just have to say it. It's called nitrous oxide, or if you want to shorten it just call it nitrous or n2o or something, but don't call it "nos". NOS is a brand name, it's an acronym for a company called Nitrous Oxide Systems. Calling it "nos" makes you sound like an idiot and it's just the wrong terminology. That's just one of my pet peeves and I had to say something about it when I saw a thread with 4 out of the 5 posts and all 4 posters calling it "nos".

johnathan, i dont mean to sound like a jerk, but most guys that are into racing and use no2, call it nos for short. you are right that it is short for that well known company, but most people use it commonly. if it is a pet peave that is fine too, and it is alright to express your opinion. but in reality, most people in the racing world who use no2 are not considered idiots when they call it nos. oh and to the Q, about the superchargers, i dont know any quads or trikes that run them. not to say there arent any, but i think most guys prefer the turbos. turbos are more efficient and can be more potent. though they have that "lag" people choose to use them anyway. i have seen many trikes that use nos, mostly atc 250r's. as far as getting 100 h.p. out of one, yes that is possible, but remember tuning is critical. if something is not perfect then it can be very expensive to keep it running. a stock 250r prolly has 30 or so h.p. just adding a 70 shot of nos to get 100 ponies would not be recommended.

I'm not trying to hi-jack the thread and turn it into a big arguement, but what racing world are you from? Domestic, import, or neither and you've just seen the "Fast and the Furious"? Also, it's n2o, not no2, no2 would be nitrous dioxide or something like that.

yes it was a misprint on my part. i do know its proper molecular components and the abbreviation. No i have never seen fast and furious. looks dumb. it is obvious that you know little about racing or we wouldnt be having this conversation. i have been around cars a lil. both imports and others. dont know much bout them but enough to know the lingo. i also am big in the atv drag racing. I think that qualifies me anough to say that when using the term nos, you are not looked at as an idiot.

Ok, you can call it "nos" if you want, but the point is that it's the wrong term for the gas. I'm not claiming to know more about cars or trikes or anything than anyone else, and I'm not saying that I've been around cars more than you. In fact, you've probably spent more time around cars and ATV's than me, but that doesn't qualify you to use the wrong name for the gas or to say that it's ok for others to.

Just in case someone on here is a chemist or something, after further thought, I realize that no2 would not be nitrous dioxide, but no2 is and impossible substance that cannot possibly be created due to the fact that 2 atoms of oxygen cannot combine with one atom of nitrogen.

Thank you, finally someone agrees with me.

You think you have it bad, I'm in high-school, I have to hear it at least 100 times a day.
God DAMN "The Fast & the Furious'!!!!
If it wasn't for my severe attention defacite disorder, that movie would have left me alot stupider. Nos is NOT a gas, two bottles of it do not make you go faster than one, front wheel drive street cars do NOT run the quarter in 10 seconds, and if you're racing a Civic because you're afraid of your Charger, then you probably don't have testicles.

"that doesn't qualify you to use the wrong name for the gas or to say that it's ok for others to."

It seems we disagree on the terminology of nitrous oxide. if you have a pet peave that is fine, i can imagine a bunch of guys after seeing fast and furious goin around saying nos and nawz being annoying. since they prolly dont know squat about it. NOS actually paid buckoo bucks to be the only nitrous manufacturer in that movie. that is what i hear at least. if you want to get technical with how a gas or anything for that matter is termed then you must realize that many things we talk about are not described using "Proper" terminology. When we talk about breathing. we say that we breathe air, or even oxygen, but you and i know that the gas we breathe is not "air" or just oxygen. it is a combination of many gases. no one goes around saying we breathe x,y,z. nos is just an acceptable term used to decribe a system, which incorporates the use of nitrous oxide. it is VERY acceptable to use the term. however if a person refers to the specific gas used as nos, then yes he/she would be wrong. I am sure there are many doughballs out there that run around saying nos this or nos that. But ya know, most of them dont know thier left foot from there right foot, let alone how a nitrous oxide system works. so let em run around and flap their mouth and think they are cool. youll be able to pick out who knows their trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro.
